PE Curriculum Introduction

The department of Physical Education at Hathaway Academy, aims to inspire and motivate students to develop and maintain a healthy and active lifestyle, through participation in both, recreational and competitive sport and activity. Within KS3 and KS4 Core Physical Education, there are three learning development strands; cognitive development, physical development and emotional development. Cognitive (thinking): students will have opportunities to develop tactical awareness, application of skills through coaching and analysis of performance. Physical (doing): students will learn about the importance of general physical health and exercise and training to improve in a specific sport/ activity. Emotional (well-being): students will learn about the benefits of physical exercise on mental health and well-being as well as the social benefits such as communication. During KS3 and KS4 core lessons, students will have opportunities to develop their own personal skill and technique, as well as developing coaching skills to support others. Students will also have opportunities to develop social skills, such as: leadership, co-operation, team work and self-esteem. Through the element of competition, students will be able to develop their confidence, resilience and analytical skills.
