Why is good attendance important?
Good attendance and punctuality are vital for success at school, and to establish positive life habits that are necessary for future success.
Through regular attendance, pupils can:
- Build friendships and develop social groups.
- Develop life skills.
- Engage in essential learning and other school social events.
- Achieve to their full potential.
- Minimise the risk of engaging in anti-social behaviour and becoming victims or perpetrators of crime.
All parents should promote good attendance and work in partnership with their child’s Academy to provide a cohesive approach.
We are concerned that your child maintains high levels of attendance, therefore:
- We will contact parents/cares on the first day of absence to find out why their child is away.
- We ask parents/cares to telephone as soon as possible when their child is absent leaving the child’s name, year group and tutor group.
- If a pupil is frequently ill on the same day each week. We will investigate to see if there is something wrong at the academy.
- Wherever possible ALL appointments, including dental and medical, should be made OUTSIDE of academy time.

FPN Information From 19 August 2024
It is crucial for all parents and carers to understand that that holidays during term time must be applied for via a form from the academy reception, but will not be authorised under any circumstance.
Any examples of families taking their children out of school to go on holiday will be issued with an FPN (Fixed Penalty Notice) charge.
Please read the FPN information from 19 August 2024 above for updated guidance from the 2024-25 academic year onwards. Whilst we understand that holiday companies charge higher costs during the school holidays, it is unacceptable to remove children from their education for this purpose.
