Student Leadership

We provide our students with a range of opportunities to develop their leadership skills and the relevant qualities needed to motivate and inspire others. We have a range of opportunities within different key stages in different year groups.

Year 9 Apprentices

The Year 9 Apprentices are recruited from the Year 9 cohort. Students are invited to apply in writing for the posts and have to be nominated by two staff members. Selected students are then interviewed and selected to be apprentices. The apprentices undertake a range of responsibilities within the Academy, including:

  • Mentoring Year 7 students
  • Undertaking duties around the Academy site at break time
  • Touring the Academy with visitors
  • Being part of the student interview panel for new members of staff
  • Assisting at Parents/Carers evenings
  • Assisting during Year 6 Transition Week

Year 11 Prefects

The Year 11 Prefects are recruited from the Year 10 cohort during the summer term. Students are invited to apply in writing for the posts and have to be nominated by two staff members. Selected students are then interviewed and selected to be prefects. The prefects undertake a range of responsibilities within the Academy, including:

  • Undertaking duties around the Academy site at break and lunch time
  • Touring the Academy with visitors
  • Being part of the student interview panel for new members of staff
  • Assisting at Parents/Carers evenings
  • Assisting during Year 6 Transition Week

Head Boy and Head Girl

The Head Boy and Head Girl positions are advertised during Summer 2. Prefects apply for these positions through an application letter and once shortlisted, are invited to interview. Students need to prepare a presentation as well as answer a set of questions during the formal interview. The Head Boy and Head Girl undertake a range of responsibilities within the Academy, including:

  • Coordinating the prefect team and ensuring they carry out their duties
  • Undertaking duties around the Academy site at break and lunch time
  • Touring the Academy with visitors
  • Being part of the student interview panel for new members of staff
  • Presenting during the Year 7 settling in evening to parents/carers
  • Assisting at Parents/Carers evenings
  • Assisting during Year 6 Transition Week
  • Presenting during the Transition Week celebration assembly to parents/carers
