I am delighted to welcome you to our Academy website. I am incredibly proud to be the Principal of The Hathaway Academy and, since my appointment in June 2013, we have begun to achieve many of the things we set ourselves to achieve. We have seen progress and attainment improve and have established a Faculty system that provides competition, a sense of belonging and an exceptional pastoral system that cares for each and every single student in our Academy.
The quality of teaching is at the heart of what we do as an Academy and this continues to go from strength to strength and is supported by an exceptional staff professional development and support programme. This was all recognised by OfSTED, who rated the Academy as ‘good’ in their most recent inspection, July 2015:
“Students learn in a caring, supportive environment where all are encouraged and helped to achieve their best”
“Students value the way the Academy is organised as three Faculties… it makes them feel like they are a part of a family.”
The most recent OfSTED grading, alongside the significant improvement seen in GCSE subject results, provides a fantastic platform and a mandate for the Academy to work towards outstanding.
In order to ensure our students enjoy Academy life and make the greatest progress, the Academy will be focussing on the following areas in order to be outstanding:
- All Senior Leaders will confidently lead their Faculties and Whole Academy responsibilities.
- All Middle Leaders will confidently lead their subject areas and Faculties.
- The quality assurance of all systems will be robust and effective in driving standards across the Academy.
- The Academy will continue to develop further the positive relationship with parents and the wider community.
- The Academy will create a clear strategy to retain and further recruit the best possible staff.
- All students will receive consistently good or outstanding teaching.
The Academy will provide the most appropriate learning opportunities for all our students, but specifically for our more able students, especially the newest cohorts of Years 7 and 8, ensuring we cater for their ability.
All teachers will provide students with clear guidance on how to improve their work via development feedback and engage all students in acting upon feedback via student dialogue.
At the Academy we want to create opportunities for all students to read for pleasure, deploy writing and oracy skills effectively across all subjects.
At the Academy we want all of our students to feel a part of strategic decision making through effective communication with the Student Leadership Team.
At the Academy we want our students to take active responsibility for their own learning and that of their peers.
The Pastoral Teams will be effective in providing proactive intervention.
All staff and students will have a clear understanding of British Values, Radicalisation, CSE and Extremism and are able to act appropriately.
This is our manifesto if you like, as we strive and drive for outstanding. This is an incredibly exciting year, during which we expect to see the greatest fruits of our labour in more students making even greater progress.
Thank you for reading and welcome to The Hathaway Academy.
